Blooming Marvelous Planting Scheme Ideas

As a Trainee Designer at GreenArt, part of my job is to work with our Garden Design team to create planting schemes for our clients. These can be schemes to refresh an existing area of a garden or as part of a completely new Garden Design.

I recently visited our local wholesale nursery Babylon Nursery  to source herbs for a customer’s vegetable garden. Whilst there I took the opportunity to have a look around and see if anything in bloom caught my eye. Here’s what I found that sparked some fresh ideas for planting schemes.

A Garden design to improve quality of life while adding value to a home

A Case Study: Why a new garden design was needed.

Steve and Jane came to GreenArt in search of a new garden design in the Autumn of 2021 after seeing the work of the Care & Development garden maintenance Team at another property in Benson.

They had lived in their 1930s’ home for over 10 years, during which time they extended and fully re-furbished the interior, to create a family home that would see them into retirement. An outdoor office built in 2018 allows Steve to work from home, but the view into the garden from both home and office was uninspiring.

The 50m long garden was substantial and well-established but provided little visual stimulation when working from home, nor was it practical for entertaining or to have a place to relax in after work.

Lawn Care at GreenArt

I’m sure you’d agree that a well-kept lawn really finishes off the overall look of a garden; perfectly straight lines, lush and green in colour, it’s something that really completes the perfect garden scene.

Keeping your lawn in tip top condition takes more than just a quick weed and feed every Spring. Specialist skills are needed to regularly assess the condition of a lawn and provide the treatment that is right for each garden.

Spring Gardening Tips

They may be called Winter Roses, but Hellebores are still very much a feature of the gardens we look after across Oxfordshire in early Spring. It just goes to show that the seasons are changing all the time and we have to adapt to what we find.

2,022 Trees in 2022 update…

Following my first blog of the Year, pledging to plant 2,022 trees in 2022, January has seen us make good headway, planting a total of 29 so far!

To keep track of our mission we’ve put up a a large tree graphic in the office and every time we plant a tree we put a yellow sticker on the tree as a visual tally of all our efforts!

Winter Gardening

You might think that there’s nothing to do in the garden during the Winter as deciduous trees have lost their leaves, perennials have died back and many plants are looking quite sad. In fact, it’s a really important time for looking after what you have, as well as preparing your garden for the Spring and Summer.

Our Garden Care and Development teams are busy working in gardens across the county throughout this Winter and have put together some tips to help your garden get in shape – and help you stay fit in the process!

2022 – Our Pledge to Plant More Trees

Following in the footsteps of Her Majesty the Queen’s initiative to ‘Plant a Tree for the Jubilee’, GreenArt is also making 2022 The Year of the Tree. With the help of our customers and their gardens we have made a pledge to plant 2,022 trees over the next 12 months.

We all know just how important trees are for the planet as well as for our own well-being so GreenArt has made a commitment to make a positive impact by encouraging our clients to include native species of trees wherever possible in their garden design.

Backwards & Forwards

Well, another year nearly gone. The last three GreenArt Garden Design and Landscaping projects of the year are nearing completion and the Garden Care and Development team are working hard on clearing their gardens back to winter bare bones, ready for the oncoming Spring. Plans are well underway for 2022 and beyond with a lot of exciting work already in the diary.

Before we file the 2021 diary away, a flick through the pages brought back some highlights from probably our busiest year ever.

Helping garden birds to over-winter

The way you manage your garden over the next few weeks can not only help to attract friendly wildlife throughout the year, but can also help some garden birds survive the Winter, such as those visiting from Northern or Eastern Europe.
